AI video generator or a production company: which do you need?
Use an AI video generator for internal drafts, tests and quick social posts. Hire a studio when the video carries your brand: exact product, natural Arabic, approvals, rights and every format. Many teams do both.
Made with AIMost marketing teams try a generator before they call a studio. They should. An AI video generator is the fastest way to learn what the technology can do, and for some jobs it is all you need. This guide says which jobs, and where the line sits between a tool and a production company.
What an AI video generator does well
A generator turns a prompt or an image into a moving clip. That is a real skill, and it is useful in more places than studios like to admit.
- Testing an idea. Show your team a mood before anyone writes a brief.
- Internal drafts. A rough film for a board meeting or a kick-off can look rough. Nobody outside will see it.
- Quick social posts. One clip, one thought, gone by next week. Low stakes suit low effort.
- Learning. A marketing lead who has made ten clips writes a better brief and asks better questions of every supplier.
- Volume of options. You can see twenty directions in an afternoon. Most will be wrong, and that is fine.
If your project sits on this list, keep your money. Make a video with AI yourself, and enjoy it.
Made with AIWhere an AI video generator stops
The clip is the easy part. A film is what happens around the clips. These are the six places where teams usually get stuck.
Script. A generator will not tell you the idea is weak. It makes whatever you ask for, with equal confidence. Someone still has to decide what the film says and what it leaves out.
Consistency. One good shot is easy. Thirty seconds of shots with the same person, the same light and the same place is hard. In one round of our own takes on 30 October 2026, the same shot came back with a different face after a jump cut. Another take put a graphic on a building when the prompt asked for it on a phone. Both looked fine alone. Neither could go in a film.
Arabic. Do not assume a tool handles Arabic as well as English. Check it in any tool you try. Listen to dialect, stress and lip-sync at full speed and half speed. Set Arabic type in the edit, not inside the generated image. We explain what to listen for in our Arabic AI video page.
Your product. A generator invents details. A pack changes shape between shots. A logo drifts. A bottle gains a second cap. If your product has to be exact, this takes real work.
Edit. Pace, order and the moment you cut away decide whether a film works. A tool gives you pieces. It does not give you the one order that makes people watch to the end.
Sound. Voice, music and effects carry half of a film. Generated sound is uneven. One of our own takes above came back almost silent and needed background sound added in the edit.
A quick test: AI video generator vs production company
Answer these five questions about your project.
| Question | Generator is fine | Use a studio |
|---|---|---|
| Who will see it? | Your team | Customers, or the public |
| Does a real product appear? | No, or not exact | Yes, and it must be right |
| Is it in Arabic with speech? | No | Yes |
| How many people sign it off? | One | Several, or legal |
| How many formats and versions? | One | Many |
All left: use the tool. Two or more on the right: talk to a studio, or at least budget for an editor. One on the right: try it yourself first, and see how far you get.
What "free" leaves out of a free AI video generator
A free AI video generator is a good way to start. It is not a free film. Before you rely on one, read the plan you are on. Check these points, because they change often and differ between tools.
- Commercial use. Does the plan allow use in advertising?
- Watermarks and resolution. Can you deliver the size your media plan needs?
- Credits. Most clips are thrown away. You pay for the bad takes as well as the good one.
- Your time. This is the largest cost, and it never appears on the invoice.
Published guides to AI video cost, such as HeyGen's and LTX's, are mostly about generation cost. That is a fair number to know. It is not the cost of a finished film, which also holds the script, the edit, the sound and the approvals.
What a production company adds, and when it is not worth paying for
A good studio adds judgement and accountability. Someone owns the idea. Someone rejects the takes that are nearly right. Someone takes the film through your approvals, and makes every format your media plan needs. A person approves every frame, and the film carries a label. You also get one person to call when a regulator, a client or your chief executive asks a question.
Here is the honest part. Those things are not worth paying for on every job. A one-off internal clip does not need a director. A weekly social post may not need a studio at all. Train someone on your team, and keep a studio for the films that carry the brand.
Many teams do both, and it works well. They use tools for tests and drafts, then bring the winning idea to a studio. A draft you made yourself is one of the best briefs we can receive, because it shows us what you like.
If you do decide on a studio, plan the number first. A standard 30-second AI commercial plans at SAR 5,500 to 9,000 (USD 1,500 to 2,400) Calculator estimate, before VAT. The budget calculator lets you change the choices and see the range move. To see how studios run this work, read our guide to AI video production.
AI video generator questions
Is there a good free AI video generator?
Several offer free plans, and they are enough for learning and drafts. Tools change monthly, so try two or three with the same prompt. Then read the terms before you use a clip in advertising.
Can an AI video tool for business replace our agency?
For drafts and simple social posts, it can. For a campaign with an exact product, Arabic speech and several approvers, you still need someone to own the film. That can be a studio, or a trained person on your team.
Can we start in a tool and finish with a studio?
Yes. Send what you have. A rough draft saves everyone a conversation about taste. Expect the shots to be remade if they need to hold up at full size.
Do we have to tell people we used AI?
Check the rules for your market and platform. We label every AI film we make, and we suggest you do the same. Our guide to labelling AI in ads shows how.
